I had a very disappointing experience during my teeth cleaning appointment today. The hygienist, Beth, appeared rushed from the start. I was in the waiting room when she arrived, seemingly late for work and shortly afterwards she called me in. As she walked me to the room, she was coughing repeatedly, which immediately made me uncomfortable given that she would be working inside my mouth. I considered asking for someone else but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. Once in the chair, her demeanor felt curt and impatient. When I laid back, I noticed the overhead light positioned over my face was visibly dirty and broken. I pointed it out, and she mentioned the office would need to order a new one. During the cleaning itself, she worked in a very rushed and aggressive manner. I tried to tolerate it, but it became increasingly uncomfortable. I eventually asked her to stop and explained that she was being too aggressive and needed to be more gentle, especially when working on someone’s teeth. Her response was dismissive, stating that being gentle would take more time. After that, she skipped part of the standard cleaning process and moved straight to buffing my teeth using the prophy-jet so they can charge my insurance. At that point, I felt uncomfortable continuing and decided to leave the room. When I returned to ask what would be billed to my insurance, I observed Beth cleaning the overhead light that I mentioned to her that was dirty. I was then told by Beth the office would be billing my insurance for Prophy service, dispute the appointment ending early. Overall, the experience felt rushed, unprofessional, and lacking basic care for patient comfort and hygiene. This was not the level of service I expect from a dental office.
