1. Who we are and what this policy covers
CareIndex is an online healthcare directory and discovery tool. We help people browse publicly available and user-submitted information about doctors, clinics, specialties, procedures, locations, and related signals. We do not practice medicine, nursing, pharmacy, or any licensed healthcare profession.
This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you visit our website, create an account, save preferences, leave reviews, or otherwise interact with CareIndex.
CareIndex is designed as a directory and information service, not as a hospital, clinic, insurer, or electronic health record system. We do not provide treatment and we do not maintain clinical charts for listed providers.
2. CareIndex is not your healthcare provider’s privacy program
Information you receive from a doctor or clinic about your own care is governed by that provider’s privacy practices and applicable healthcare laws, which may include HIPAA where they apply to covered entities.
CareIndex generally does not receive your protected health information from providers for treatment purposes. If you contact a provider outside our site, their privacy policies apply—not this one.
Do not send us sensitive medical records, test results, or emergency information through general contact forms or reviews.
3. Information we may collect
Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:
- Account details such as name, email address, and authentication identifiers if you register or sign in.
- Profile or preference information you choose to save, such as saved searches or comparison lists.
- User-generated content such as ratings, reviews, comments, or feedback you submit about providers or clinics.
- Technical and usage data such as browser type, device information, pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, and referral URLs.
- Location information if you choose to use features like “Near Me” and grant location access in your browser. We use that signal to sort or display nearby listings—not to diagnose or treat you.
- Communications you send to us, such as support requests or legal notices.
4. Where directory information comes from
Listings may be compiled from public sources, licensed data feeds, provider-submitted profiles, third-party databases, and user contributions.
We do not independently verify every field in every profile. Providers are responsible for the accuracy of information they submit or authorize.
Directory information can change without notice. Before visiting any provider, confirm insurance participation, fees, hours, credentials, languages, availability, and services directly with that provider or their office.
5. How we use information
We use information to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the directory and website experience.
- Display search results, profiles, maps, and informational scores or ratings.
- Authenticate users, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms.
- Respond to support requests and legal obligations.
- Measure aggregate usage and performance of the service.
- Send service-related messages such as account confirmations or policy updates when permitted.
6. How we treat health-related information
We do not use the directory to deliver medical care and we do not sell lists of users’ medical conditions for unrelated advertising.
Reviews or comments you choose to publish may reveal health-related opinions or experiences. You control whether you include personal details, and published content may be visible to others.
Ratings, reviews, scores, rankings, wait-time estimates, and similar signals are informational only. They are not clinical quality measures, accreditations, endorsements, or guarantees of outcomes, safety, or suitability for your care.
Insurance labels shown in the directory are informational and may be incomplete or outdated. They are not a guarantee of coverage, network status, or payment. Only your insurer and the provider can confirm benefits.
9. Retention and security
We retain information for as long as needed to operate the directory, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
10. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export certain personal information, or to object to some processing.
You may update account details in your profile settings where available, or contact us to request help.
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA. If you are in other jurisdictions with privacy laws, local rights may apply.
Questions about these policies may be sent to contact@careindex.com.
11. Children’s privacy
CareIndex is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. Users outside the United States
CareIndex is operated from the United States. If you access the site from another country, your information may be processed in the U.S. or where our service providers operate.
Local laws where you live may differ from U.S. law.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date.
Material changes may also be highlighted on the site or communicated to registered users when appropriate.
14. Contact
CareIndex privacy inquiries: contact@careindex.com.
If you are a provider seeking to update or remove a listing, include enough detail for us to locate the profile. We may request verification of authority.
This policy is governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory local privacy laws apply.
