Nine months after a painful, perplexing, and slow-healing injury, I was still experiencing bouts of discomfort that were affecting my ability to do routine tasks. Specifically, lifting or pulling things with any considerable amount of force involved were causing flare-ups of pain. Of course this contributed to a feeling of dread and mental anguish that I'd never return to normalcy. I continued seeing my urologist but trusted my instincts to seek out pelvic floor therapy and ultimately linked up with Mukta. Mukta helped me understand fundamental concepts related to physiology, muscles, and the nervous system which gave me insight into my injury and explanations for what I was experiencing. My baseline comprehension of my own body was limited, so earlier work focused on observing my body and simple exercises to reduce anxiety during spikes of pain. Likewise, gleaning awareness of my posture enabled me to make small adjustments to support a more aligned posture when walking, standing, and sitting. Mukta patiently worked with me on pelvic floor mobility exercises and diaphragmatic breathing in subsequent sessions. I also learned tips on approaching tasks with intentionality and listened to a recommended audiobook which helped me grasp the connection between the role of memory neurons and my particular pelvic floor disorder. On Mukta's recommendation, I took up yoga to help with body lengthening and limberness; and grew to really like it. In summary, pelvic floor therapy with Mukta was an iterative process that helped me demystify my situation and feel more in control of my body. I appreciated Mukta's easygoing demeanor and patience during the course of our sessions. She is approachable, responsive and makes her exercises and tips accessible to whatever format works best. With appreciation!
