I strongly advise against using Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) for any medical needs, especially for children. Our experiences in multiple departments have been consistently terrible. Labor and Delivery: - Nightmare experience (details provided under their labor and delivery google page) Pediatric Radiology: Pros: - X-ray procedure went smoothly Cons: - Extremely poor IV insertion skills - 6 failed attempts by 2 different nurses - 12-week-old baby left crying for 30 minutes - Staff incorrectly claimed this was "normal" Overall Hospital Issues: - Consistently poor care across departments - Lack of skilled nursing staff - Insensitivity to patient comfort, especially children After our awful experiences at SIUH, we switched to Hackensack Meridian Hospital. The difference was night and day: - Blood draw completed in 10 minutes - IV inserted correctly on the first attempt - Professional and efficient care In conclusion, do not take your children or yourself to SIUH for any medical needs. We made the mistake of giving them a second chance after our initial bad experience, hoping it was limited to one department. Unfortunately, the problems seem to be hospital-wide. There are much better options available, where you and your family can receive proper care and treatment.
