Dr. Shtainer was amazing! He had a few patients and was able to manage balancing quality care by having a strong support infrastructure for a relatively small independent single practitioner practice. He was able to have front desk personnel, radiology personnel, nursing/phlebotomy personnel, etc., allowing for a smooth process and flow as he made his way between patients. He was quick but thorough. He listened to everything, asked all the important relevant questions, explained the possibilities and options, and implemented the collaborative conclusions very quickly and clearly. He was confident but not pushy. He also wasn't one of those doctors who tends to take the conservative cautious route by default- rather layed out all the treatment options to let you decide. The office was also surprisingly on time and I waited no longer than 5 minutes in the waiting room to be called in. The only downside (which isn't much of a downside) is that their familiarity with insurance procedures was questionable. When they called to confirm my appointment, the receptionist was questioning if I knew I had a "high" deductible and if I still wanted to come. I found that to be strange. Then when I arrived, they questioned again my "high
deductable, clearly unsure what to bill me or do about that in relation to my copay. As everyone knows, even with plans with deductables, the specialists charge the copays, and once the claim is submitted, IF more money is owed, then it is billed, and if less, it is credited. This is standard and never saw similar confusion at any other doctor. Even when I needed some in house procedures, they seemed overly worried about my deductible and immediately offered me discounts for the procuedures to pay up front. Highly unusual and once I left I was wondered if they plan to even bill the insurance and refund me if they were incorrect with the amounts stated. Deductibles don't apply to everthing and every contract between insurer and member as well as between insurer and provider is unique and should not be left up to guessing. BUT, this confusion can be chaulked up to being a small independent practice and should not be confused with care. From my experience, this is a 5 star provider and practice, with quality care and a smooth process overall. Looking forward to my follow up in a month, after completing the prescribed treatment!
FOLLOW UP FOLLOWING WEEK: My minor concern was nothing. They billed insurance and it almost exactly matched up to what I had been charged. Doctor also called me to follow up on my test results and further instructions. They are totally efficient and organized. Very happy with my choice.
