Growing up I had the rare privilege of knowing what truly exceptional doctors look like, and Dr. Answorth Allen is one of them. Over ten years ago, Dr. Allen performed a right shoulder repair for me with excellent results, which established my trust in him long before my most recent injury. More recently, I suffered a complete distal biceps tendon tear to my dominant arm, which is essential for my ability to work. I saw Dr. Allen about a week after the injury — at a time when I had just been laid off and had no health insurance. He told me plainly that the injury required urgent surgery. Despite my situation, he and his team worked quickly to get me into surgery that same week and were even willing to delay billing coordination so I could receive the care I urgently needed. His staff was outstanding — kind, patient, and genuinely caring. The surgery was a success, and I left with peace of mind during one of the most difficult moments of my life. Dr. Allen saw me as a human being who needed help — and he made it happen. Exceptionally skilled, confident, ethical, and deeply compassionate. I’m profoundly grateful.

I had an ACL and MCL tear. Dr. Allen and his team were amazing. The staff is extremely caring and accommodating. The surgery center was great, and I would highly recommend HSS and Dr. Allen as an orthopedic surgeon.

Everyone said to trust Dr Allen. After one 5 minute visit, we scheduled my husbands ACL reconstruction. He completed this surgery in what seemed like 15 minutes. I was concerned at how quick he entered the OR and exited the OR. It’s been 8 years and ever since that surgery my husband has had pain and stiffness, where before the surgery he had no pain. There are many orthopedic surgeons and while he may care for professional athletes, he may not put the time and effort in for regular people. Follow up visits were 2 minutes long and concerns dismissed.

Dr. Allen is an excellent Orthopedic surgeon. I just had shoulder surgery after working with Dr. Allen in every way to avoid surgery. He is brilliant yet reserved. He is kind and explains everything in a manner that one can understand. His bedside manner is great. His entire team is a reflection of his professionalism and kind demeanor. He is a one of a kind Orthopedic surgeon and the best.
