An experienced I wish I had the power to turn the hands of time back. Nothing to do with the doctor or his staff’s, as far as how they conducted themselves when speaking to me, cause they were very nice, and very professional, and did repair the shoulder cuff tear. I just feel like something went wrong and there is a sort of dishonesty on their behalf. I’ve been experiencing continuous pain in an area of the arm I wasn’t experiencing before the surgery, driving me to pay for another MRI to see what was causing the pain. Something the doctor never requested for on his own. Even after multiple visits of me sharing, with him, my concerns. That, caused me to request a post-operation report from his office to investigate further.
Reading the report I found things that raised red flags for me. In the report it stated that he went over, with me, the procedure of how he was going to perform the surgery to correct my injury. Something he didn’t do. In fact, he didn’t even go over, with me, the first MRI results to point out and explain where the injury was coming from. I had to book another appointment to see if maybe then he would do that and still all I got from him was that I had a full tear and that we needed to get that repaired.
Fast forward to the week and day of the surgery. I was supposed to do a physical to clear me for the surgery and I never got a call from his Sergical Coordinator to schedule me for that. I had to make the phone call myself inquiring about it and in the end, thank God for my primary doctor, I was able to get it done, and my primary doctor was able to pull some strings to get the results delivered to the Sergical Coordinator a day prior to the surgery.
The day of the surgery, I never saw the doctor to tell me how the surgery went and was told by an assistant that the doctor would call me at home the week of. I never received a phone call from the doctor, or anyone from his office to check on how I was doing.
After three weeks went by, I had the post op and that’s when I was told that I can start my physical therapy. Under the instructions that were given to me, on the surgery day discharged papers, I was told that I would be prescribed pain medication for when I start my physical therapy; something I never received. A week went by of painstaking therapy when I decided to call the Sergical Coordinator requesting for the medication.
Seven months later I still feel pain in that area I wasn’t getting prior to the surgery. I also experienced a gulf ball size inflammation on my elbow that I went to the emergency for. I was given a medication that was injected to the arm that eventually brought the inflammation down, but now I get a clicking sound coming from that elbow every time I extend the arm when lifting a two pound weight during my therapy. The shoulder now clicks too and I have to take ibuprofen to sleep sometimes at night when I can’t take the excruciating pain.
