A lot of the people here do NOT care about you. I was not the person in need of medical attention - I was accompanying a friend who had badly cut themselves. Their security staff is the worst I have EVER encountered in a medical facility. Specifically, the man that “helped” us was so breathtakingly horrible that it is disgrace that he is allowed to keep his job. I would say to this man: Please find a job that doesn’t require you to care about anyone else’s wellbeing since you could barely be bothered to make eye contact with us while my friend was visibly gushing blood directly in front of you. A lot of the people at this emergency room do not care about you. They do not care if you get seen, they do not care if you are injured, they do not care if you are bleeding out feet away from them. They DO care very much about talking to their friends about what they’re doing this weekend. I have never met someone so incompetent, uncommunicative, or lazy as the man we encountered upon our arrival. I arrived with my friend who had badly cut themselves and required stitches. He proceeded to stare at us blankly and not speak to us despite us greeting him and asking him where to go. He casually waved us through, barely spoke to us, and then reprimanded us when we were unable to read his mind. He is, of course, not a nurse or doctor, and it is not his job to tend to my friend directly. But it is his job to get us through security in an efficient manner so that we can check in and wait to be seen. So it is deeply concerning that he instead ignored us when we asked where to check in and what he needed from us to get through security. He also routinely left the desk, allowing people to just wander through the metal detectors. He then just wandered around the waiting room aimlessly. I am beyond disgusted that the hospital allows this man to be the first point of contact for people experiencing a medical emergency. I hope that should I ever need assistance he is not on staff, lest I bleed out in the entryway before he can be bothered to return to his desk and stare at me blankly. The men that took over his position shortly after he left were, thankfully, able to actually do their jobs. They were clear, they were direct, and they treated the patients like human beings. I understand that this is a stressful job. But if you completely lack compassion and clearly do not care about the patients coming in experiencing medical emergencies, you should not be working here.

Came to Mount Sinai, Morningside, ER on the instructions of my dentist, with an infection in my mouth that was spreading to my sinuses. After a two hour wait in the waiting room, I saw somebody for four minutes, and another three hours waiting for a CAT scan, and I am now on another three hours waiting for a simple IV antibiotics. All they need to do is hook me up to a bag. I’ve had the damn IV thing in my arm for six hours. I was told that the IV antibiotics were necessary because the antibiotics given by my dentist we’re not strong enough so it does not serve me well to just leave especially with these two coming out of my arms going into the ninth hour!
