I went to this pain management clinic while experiencing severe fibromyalgia pain and was seeking relief and support. During my visit, I did not feel that my condition was treated in a way that provided comfort or meaningful relief. I was told I was “too young” for certain treatment options, which made me feel dismissed rather than evaluated based on my actual level of pain and needs. Fibromyalgia can be extremely debilitating, and when pain reaches severe levels, patients need a thoughtful and individualized approach—not one based primarily on age. After leaving the appointment without relief or a clear plan, I experienced a severe mental health crisis due to the level of pain I was in. I am grateful that I made it through that experience, but no patient should be left in that position. I understand there are guidelines providers must follow, but patients in significant pain should still feel heard, supported, and given a clear plan for managing their symptoms, especially during flare-ups. I hope this clinic reflects on how they approach patients with chronic pain so others receive more compassionate and personalized care.
