As a doctor myself, I am so disappointed in this practice and Dr. Kim. I have a premature child and was told that it would be no problem to see any doctor in this practice. We ended up seeing Dr Kim. First off, I thought it was odd that no body temperature was taken for the first visit which included a full body physical (especially as a premie). We then told him about her latch issues which was causing acid reflux and her lack of eating ,which was concerning due to weight loss. I was told to just change the nipple size. I also noticed that I was the one offering other solitons such as changing the feed durations, giving smaller amounts, or increasing the fortification of the breast milk so that she meets her weight threshold. It was an extremely stressful time for us as gaining weight for a premie is a MUST. After MY OWN research, I figured she also had a tongue tie which was causing the latch issues and acid. My poor daughter for weeks couldn’t latch the bottle, causing no weight gain and fatigue. At the second visit, I asked if there was any abnormality in her mouth to which he said no. Then I myself asked if she has a tongue tie. He finally checked and then changed his answer to yes she does have an abnormality. I asked if I should get it snipped so that she has a more mobile tongue to latch. He stated that it was not necessary as the tie wasn’t serious. He also said that it wasn’t a big deal because the English language doesn’t require a lot of “rolling of the Rs”…. WHAT?!!!! So I’m suppose to stifle her ability to speak?!!! Thankfully I didn’t listen and booked an appt to see an ENT who specializes in tongue tie. She stated her tongue tie was severe AND had a raised upper palate causing her increased difficulty in latching. She proceeded to remove the tie that visit. It was a NIGHT and DAY difference!! She could finally latch and starting eating a lot more without fatiguing. Finally, Dr Kim at the first visit, stated that we needed a hip ultrasound done at 6 weeks post birth. At the second visit, he stated this again to which we said we booked the appt for 6 weeks and gave him the specific date. After scheduling the appt at cohen children center, scheduling her feeds accordingly, missing 2 pump seasons, and driving back and forth to the hospital, I was told there that the hip ultrasound should’ve been booked for 6 WEEKS POST EXPECTED DUE DATE NOT DELIVERY DATE. Therefore I was 2 months too early and would need to redo the whole exam again. The whole day was wasted and my daughter would have to redo this uncomfortable exam once again. This is what I get for trusting the doctor instead of doing my own research (which i shoudnt repeatedly have to do) Dr Kim clearly doesn’t have experience in premie children and could’ve at least referred me to someone who does. I don’t appreciate the stress this has caused us. I have spent a month in NICU and trusted the pediatrician after to steer us right. I called to speak to the manager to voice my concerns , and NO ONE called me back either. As a doctor myself, I am extremely disappointed in Optum care and Dr. Kim. Attached is a screenshot where no apology or admission of fault was shown, which shows lack of bedside manner.
