DO NOT RECOMMEND Our experience fostering through My Foundling was deeply disappointing and ultimately led us to stop working with the organization. When we started this process we expected transparency, professionalism, and a collaborative partnership focused on the best interests of the children. Instead, we encountered frequent communication problems, disorganization, and a lack of respect for foster families’ time and commitments. One of the most frustrating aspects of our experience was the agency’s approach to scheduling. We were routinely expected to accommodate meetings with little or no advance notice, including requests for same-day or next-day meetings. Schedules were frequently changed with minimal notice, making it extremely difficult to manage work responsibilities, family obligations, and the needs of the child in our care. The expectation seemed to be that foster parents would simply rearrange their lives at a moment’s notice, regardless of the disruption involved. We also found many interactions with staff to be unprofessional, uneducated and rude. Communication was often inconsistent, expectations were unclear, and important information was not always conveyed in a timely manner. Rather than feeling supported, we often felt that we were navigating a disorganized system without adequate guidance. Foster parents invest significant emotional, physical, and financial resources into caring for vulnerable children. In our experience, that commitment was not met with the level of professionalism, responsiveness, and respect that foster families deserve. Another issue that concerned us was a lack of transparency regarding medical providers. We were under the impression that the child would be receiving care from a pediatrician, but learned that the provider was actually a nurse practitioner. Overall I do not recommend, unless you are a masochist.
