I cannot say enough good things about HSS or Dr. William Ricci. I was lost and overwhelmed about where to go to repair my distal humerus after after a traumatic fall. HSS could not have made it easier. I simply called their main number and gave the representative basic information about my injury/insurance and she gave me three HSS doctors to contact and told me to call back if I needed more names. As luck would have it, Dr. William Ricci, Chief of HSS Trauma Surgery, was on the list. His pleasant receptionist told me to electronically send my ER images and if Dr Ricci thought it was appropriate they would call me to set up an appt. I sent the images at 10 PM on a Wed night not expecting to hear back soon and to my shock and happy surprise I recieved a call that Friday at 9 AM offering me an appt for 9AM Monday! It felt like I had won the lottery! I live out on the far east end of Long Island and expected to travel into NYC but it turned out that the appointmnet was in the new HSS' Southampton office which is baeutiful and serene. I was reassured by Dr. Ricci's knowledge and confidence in his ability to repair my arm, but most important, I appreciated that he listened and understood my concerns about the lifelong limitations that would be created by an alternative procedure. After meeting Dr. Ricci that morning I cancelled an appt with another surgeon because there was no question in my mind as to which Dr I wanted on my team. I had two surgeries with Dr. Ricci and now have almost full range of motion, am pain free, and no weight lifting restrictions. HSS hospital itself is a fine tuned machine full of very professional, yet kind and friendly, staff and clinicians. I could not be happier or more thankful for HSS and Dr. Ricci. Sorry for the long review but I hope it helps others who are feeling overwhelmed and at a loss of where to turn for unexpected orthopedic surgery. -Diane Brooks
