My wife was referred to msk in Uniondale for peritoneal cancer. Oncologist she was seeing wanted her to do chemo again. She did not want to do the chemo again she wanted to have surgery to have the tumor removed. So that oncologist referred her to msk in Uniondale where she saw a different oncologist who also recommended chemo but understood my wife did not want to do the chemo and would rather do the surgery to have it removed. Referring her to a surgeon there.That surgeon at msk in Uniondale said he would have to put it before a board before he could do the surgery and she would need to get a biopsy which we went to Manhattan for. The main msk campus where the biopsy doctor said her pressure was too high sent her to the emergency room to lower her blood pressure so she can come back up to have the biopsy. As it turns out they could not do the biopsy that day. It had to be rescheduled for a different day. Which was at a different msk location in Manhattan. They was able to do the biopsy and everything went smoothly. After going back to the surgeon at msk in Uniondale he said he needed an MRI with contrast. Then he needed a CAT scan with contrast which was a week apart. Having contrast two times a week apart is not good for anybody but my wife had both the CAT scan and the MRI with contrast because she wanted to have the surgery to have the tumor removed. Then she was told she would need another test with contrast before they could do the surgery which would mean 3 weeks in a row with contrast. At this point and almost 4 months later with no treatment and just tests. we walked away from msk and went back to the original oncologist to do the chemo. On one of the days she was there one of the people at the desk said they had 187 people having scans that day. When we first went to msk we thought we were going to one of the leading hospitals in cancer treatment. We can honestly say it's the worst place anybody could take a loved one to be treated for cancer. Having this tumor and giving it a chance to spread for almost 4 months with no treatment and all they want to do is tests that make them money. In our opinion money is all they care about not patient's care. She also has a friend who had cancer and traveled to msk in Manhattan for chemo treatment from Suffolk county Long Island and would be there at 8:00am in the morning and not leave until almost 6:00pm at night for a 4-Hour chemo treatment. They treat people like guinea pigs and care about money not patient care. I would think twice before using msk for cancer treatment.
