I highly recommend Elizabeth Merillat, MSP, FNP-C and Marie Serfis, PA-C at the insbrook location. These women exemplify what it means to be empathic, respectful, and truly listen to their patients. I am so thankful to have found such amazing providers.

I used to go here and genuinely felt completely disrespected and not listened to during my appointment. I went in for abdominal pain on my right side that is ONLY present ever while i lay on my right side. I saw a doctor that was not my normal PCP due to the symptoms, they wanted me to come sooner. (Dr. Mahji). The doctor I saw, without asking, made several statements over and over again insinuating that i just eat “greasy fatty meals.” She never once asked me my diet or my exercise plans but kept repeating that over and over, probably 4 or 5 times. She told me my cholesterol was slightly elevated last year during my visit, and i expressed a bit of shock because no one ever even mentioned that to me, and she responded again that i probably just ate heavy greasy fatty meals the night before. I was too stunned to correct her or tell her my actual eating habits because that was the first time i experienced what i would refer to as discrimination based on my size, and i honestly couldn’t even process what was being said to me. I assumed it wouldnt even matter if i spoke up because she clearly already made a judgement call based on my weight. She didn’t ask me anything about my diet or exercise but made all these assumptions. I know its common for people to think that bigger people are just lazy and eat nothing but fast food, but believe it or not, that’s simply not the case for a lot of us. I felt absolutely humiliated in a place i went for help. It took a lot of courage for me to make the appointment and now i won’t go anywhere because i don’t want to be treated like that again. Even the nurse seemed to sense I was upset or that something was off as once the doctor left and she came back to tell me I could leave, she made an effort to tell me how pretty my makeup was. I appreciate her kindness, but this whole experience unfortunately turned me off of the entire practice and I will be searching elsewhere for my primary care. I liked my PCP but i just don’t feel right going there anymore and it just makes me want to cry walking into the building. Only two stars because of that kind nurse and my now former PCP. I ask that you educate yourself as doctors and try to be more compassionate and less stereotypical and judgemental. You don’t understand what some people have overcome to make their appointment, and I was already on a weightloss journey, but the doctor did not care to ask anything about me. It was hurtful and discouraging.
