I am very disappointed with the care my child received at Mount Sinai Queens (Astoria) Pediatric Emergency Department. We arrived by ambulance after my child experienced a concerning medical episode that nearly caused her to faint. Upon arrival, the front desk staff appeared unprofessional and inattentive. While taking my information, they were having personal conversations about crushes and people they liked, which did not inspire confidence during a stressful situation involving my child. After being placed in a room, we waited for over an hour without anyone coming to assess her. It was only after I informed staff that I was considering leaving and taking my child to another hospital that a doctor finally came to see her. The physician spent only a brief amount of time with my child, performed no testing, and simply stated that she was fine before discharging her. Given the severity of the symptoms that brought us to the emergency room, I expected a more thorough evaluation and clearer explanation of why no testing was considered necessary. As a parent, it was frustrating and upsetting to feel that my concerns were not taken seriously. The long wait, lack of communication, and limited assessment left me with little confidence in the care we received.
