I would caution anyone going here for Adult Autism testing, especially if you are: 1- Not white (or other cultural background) 2- Not male/AFAB 3- Not a person with a co-occurring intellectual disability Sometimes it's really apparent when a person doesn't actually have a lot of experience interacting with "high-functioning" autistics. And at first I thought the doctor's lack of understanding was an act-- like, maybe it was part of his evaluation process? ...so I brought another fellow autistic person with me to one of my appointments and they were just as confused by some of his comments as I was. He is clearly intelligent, but he lacks practical insight into autistic behaviors and relies primarily on a textbook understanding of autistic traits For example: He gets annoyed if you ask too many questions. Ignores your requests to please dim the ridiculously bright lighting or obnoxious white noise machine. Assumes you are being "aggressive" or "rude" if you use wording that is too direct. -- all of these things are very normal autistic behavioral/ communication traits. His empathy also comes across as feigned/ insincere? I got the impression that he might be some flavor of neurodivergent too...👀 The office itself is very nice and clean. The lighting inside the doctors room was glaringly bright. They have one large overhead light and lighting fixtures on the desks, on top of very bright sunlight shining directly through the windows. It might be too much if you're sensitive to that.
