I had an extremely negative and concerning experience at New Life OBGYN while 14 weeks pregnant. I would strongly caution anyone seeking prenatal care to consider other providers. I scheduled an obstetric appointment for prenatal care, yet shockingly, the staff did not even seem aware that I was pregnant until the ultrasound began. This immediately raised concerns about their organization and attention to patient records. During my visit, the physician/midwife, Sonya Ostroy, repeatedly pressured me to undergo optional blood work that I clearly declined multiple times. When I expressed that I felt pressured, she denied it while continuing the same behavior. After that, any medical questions I asked were dismissed with responses like, “I don’t know since you won’t get blood work,” even when my questions were unrelated. This felt unprofessional and punitive. After I told her she was making me uncomfortable, her demeanor became noticeably rude. She proceeded to perform a rough vaginal exam while continuing to pressure me, which made an already vulnerable situation feel even worse. There were also multiple instances of inappropriate and careless behavior: • She nearly forgot to check my skin, then abruptly turned back and aggressively pulled down the collar of my shirt to look at my back, despite already examining my chest. When I tried to adjust my clothing myself to help, she snapped “NO NO NO” as if I had done something wrong. • When I pointed out a small mole/skin tag on my areola, she handled it roughly, incorrectly suggested it might be an infection, and told me not to touch it—despite having just handled it herself. • She appeared unfamiliar with certain supplements commonly discussed in pregnancy and dismissed them outright instead of providing informed guidance. Additionally, the office did not provide any filtered or bottled drinking water for patients, which is concerning in a prenatal care setting. Another serious issue was the accuracy of my medical records. They documented false information about me, including stating that I am homosexual, sexually active, and that I consume alcohol… none of which are true. This kind of inaccurate charting is unacceptable and could impact patient care. The issues continued after I left. I called the same day to have my medical records sent to a new doctor. I was told it would take a week for my sonogram and records to be ready and that they would not send them directly to me—only by fax. They claimed to have faxed my records, but my new doctor never received them. When I followed up, I was given inconsistent and misleading information, including being told my urine results were not ready; which I later confirmed was untrue after speaking directly with their medical records department. It ultimately felt like my care and access to my own medical information were being mishandled, possibly because I chose not to continue care with this provider. Overall, this experience was disorganized, unprofessional, and at times intimidating. As a pregnant patient, I expected a basic level of respect, clear communication, and competent care; none of which were consistently provided here. I would not recommend this practice to anyone seeking reliable or respectful prenatal care.
