I went for my annual today! It was what’s to be expected: typical office visits during and post Covid. My issue is why was I told my lab responsibility is $250 of an almost $1800 lab order?? Lab work is typically covered fully by my insurance! I’ve had the same insurance for almost 27 years! Plan hasn’t changed. I see request on the lab order for things I’ve never seen before:chem test 14, malb, Rand w/cr, vzr bg ab, Rpr(DX) Refl ftc, service code 0003259( no description), and uric acid? What are you looking for? And why is Rubella Immune, Measles ab lgg Eia, Mumps Virus Igg. Eiz, and Hep C AB W/Rel HCV on the lab request?? Are these vaccines shots I didn’t agree to? Are you checking to see if I have these illnesses? If so why? This is truly egregious and wasteful billing! I shouldn’t be shocked as I see this type of billing on a daily basis as my job is to cut cost for the payers and ultimately the patient! Never thought I would be the actual patient being impacted! Unbelievable…

My daughter had an initial visit today .I selected Advantage Health Care for its convenient location and ease of scheduling appointments. I scheduled my daughter’s visit with Dr. Nahid Chowdhury due to her residency training at One Brooklyn Health, where my daughter previously received pediatric care. An insurance change required us to find a new provider. The clinic environment was clean, organized, and the staff were professional, respectful, and knowledgeable. As a healthcare administrator at a Federally Qualified Health Center, I am deeply familiar with clinical best practices, pediatric care standards, and patient safety protocols. During my daughter’s routine pediatric physical examination, Dr. Chowdhury put on gloves to perform a standard physical exam. While gloves are appropriate in certain clinical situations, their use in routine pediatric exams without a clear medical indication can be concerning. For my daughter such practices cause her unnecessary fear or anxiety, convey emotional distance, or imply that the child is “unclean” or at higher risk. This has the potential to undermine trust, compromise the therapeutic relationship, and negatively impact the child’s perception of healthcare, particularly among underserved populations who may already face systemic barriers or stigma in accessing care. While many aspects of the clinic are commendable, this incident highlights a gap in culturally sensitive, child-centered. Due to this experience, I have decided that I will not schedule future visits with Dr. Chowdhury. My daughter is currently pending a return visit for lab review, and will request that she be scheduled with a different provider for continuity of care.
