You have to pay before the appointment. After scheduling, they'll start sending text messages asking you to pay half; if you don't, they'll cancel the appointment immediately. The appointment doesn't last the full hour either; if you're late, they'll deduct time from your appointment, and there are occasional delays (my last appointment took about an hour).
