Mohammad Maher Abdul Hay, MD

In 2022 my father was diagnosed with leukemia, I am deeply grateful for the care Dr. Maher Abdul hay MD gave my father. From the very first moment, he showed such genuine kindness and compassion, treating my father not just as a patient, but as a person. He took the time to listen, explain everything in detail, and answer our questions with patience and warmth. His thoroughness and calm reassurance made an overwhelming situation feel manageable, and for that, I am truly thankful. Seeing how attentively my father was cared for gave our whole family comfort and peace of mind. The staff was also kind and supportive, which made the experience smoother and far less stressful. It’s rare to find a doctor who combines deep knowledge with such heart, and I can’t recommend Dr. Maher Abdul hay MD highly enough. My family and I are so grateful for the outstanding care he provided.

Firstly and Foremost Dr Hay saved my life (along with many others at the Perlmutter BMT team but he was my primary BMT Physician). This is why I give 'the five star' rating. There are not enough words of thanks a person can give for this, for saving your life, because I surely and most definitely would be dead by now. I was at a very dangerous level of Leukemia 'Saturation' in my blood/body (over 60%) and it was reproducing quickly (going higher). I was treated 'right away' (within the week) after being seen, to bring down my 'blasts' (and more, I believe) so we could do the BMT/Stem Cell Transplant, which did happen. This was very comforting (to be put in care immediately) and Dr Hay is professional as well as 'a nice guy.' This was just over a year ago and my Leukemia did relapse (too much of a % at first is my take). But Dr Hay 'kept it at bay' and I am at 16% through use of various medication and clinical trials. I have tried to 'stay positive these past two years, with 'bad jokes' (and some good ones, too) but secretly I am scared (and try not to let that come out). I want to say: "Thanks for putting up with me everyone!" I am truly grateful. I honestly believe that Dr Hay has and had my best interest at heart. He has now recommended me to other clinical trials (and care) at other 'top rated' hospitals here in NYC as he does not have any spots for his (I believe this was an 'easy letdown' as well, also to get the best care possible. He will no longer be my Doctor after this change). This might be controversial to others in the larger NYU BMT department (and I may not have said that right completely) but I want to put it here that I honestly believe he cares about me and that the people at Perlmutter have become like family this past year. Truly, they do not deserve any discrediting but more support to 'iron out' any glitches they come upon. They really are heroes but to them it is 'just another day at work' ...'true' heroes... I hope this review makes up a bit for any bad experiences they might have had, I wish I could pay them back more for saving me (I think I was more of a challenge than I realize at this point). Nothing is perfect, of course but I would like to say that it 'is' true that NYU is one of the best hospitals for Leukemia; the care was 'above and beyond' in very nice surroundings. I would like the public to know this in the face of experiencing some malcontents first hand myself, rarely (which can be understandable as they are going through tremendous stress having the illnesses as well). I am being polite and downplaying the malcontent, there were a few 'life saves' with Nurses and/or EMTs, Doctors on duty ...scrambling in the hospital... gurneys or/and equipment ...towards a room or at a room already ...talking loudly about what to do and what was going on (like it was right out of a TV Show); other patients were yelling during the night from their beds sometimes (not nice things and some scary things) and others not quite happy in the Outpatient settings. Again my experience was over a year period (they were rare occurrences compared to the time I have been a patient). I was admitted (hospitalized) five times to Kimmel Pavilion (hospital) and have been having appointments every week at 'outpatient' locations, for over a year. Dr Hay has been my Doctor through all this. Also worth noting, is that NYU is a 'big tent' with many resources and locations to draw upon. This is a great advantage for a patient and provided many 'eyes' with 'second opinions' about my procedure(s), 'as' the procedures were happening. NYU Langone gets 'great press' and reviews on search engines... but from a patient that has experienced it in person for over a year... I say the 'hype' is true ...about NYU.

This doctor is amazing. Fast responding, explaining all aspects , communicating is just awesome. Very professional stuff, fast scheduling. 10 stars. Strongly recommended.

I was diagnosed with AML and went through multiple treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), all of which, unfortunately, failed. I had lost hope of surviving. Then, one of the physicians there referred me to Dr Abdul Hay at NYU, who was running a clinical trial that could be my last chance. From the moment I stepped into NYU, I was impressed—not just with the facility, but especially with Dr. Hay. He is a rare gem in the medical world. His unique expertise in both leukemia and bone marrow transplant is something I couldn’t find anywhere else in the city. Dr. Hay enrolled me in his clinical trial, and today, I am alive and well enough to write this review—something I once thought would never be possible. I owe my life to him and his incredible team. Thank you, for giving me hope when I had none left.

Dr. Abdul Hay is an outstanding physician. After being diagnosed with leukemia, I was overwhelmed and scared, but his calm, knowledgeable, and compassionate approach made all the difference. He clearly explained my treatment options and guided me through a successful transplant with confidence and care. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Abdul Hay was attentive, responsive, and deeply committed to my recovery. Thanks to his expertise, I’m now in remission.
