Ghassan K Abou-Alfa, MD

Dr. Abou-Alfa was highly recommended by so many people in oncology groups, but I was also warned that his office is so understaffed and have made many medical mistakes, which is terrifying since that can be life or death for a cancer patient. While MSKCC gets a ton of funding, I don’t see that benefitting the patients at all. Like others have said, the wait times are always 4+ hours in the medical room while his office staff come in and out surprised that you’re still in there. Dr. Abou-Alfa spent no more than 5 mins with us as he was rushing his way to another appointment. I thought maybe it was because we were only there to get another opinion before starting treatment, but now I’m reading on other online forums that he treats his current patients the same way. Glad we went with a different hospital.

I have been with Dr. Abou- Alfa on my way to 3 years now dealing with Stage 4 Cholangiocarcinoma. Now that I have him, I couldn't imagine fighting with anyone else. I feel we are very in sync. He gave me very easy instructions, he is my doctor, I am to listen to him and no one else. Even though he doesn't like me reading my scans, he knows I need to, because I know he has something lined up. He has given me the ability to regain my life (outside of cancer). He always takes the time to answer questions. I recommend writing them down. I have never felt rushed. And no matter what happens, I'm proud to know he is by my side to the end❤️

I rate Dr Abou-Alfa among the best physicians who have treated me in my 68 years and on three continents.. His knowledge about cutting edge developments in the treatment of liver cancer combine neatlywith his winning personality and dedicated team. He is intelligent, erudite and urbane a conversationalist which combine neatly with his grasp of tomorrow's science . I feel I'm with the best I can find in New York and I am very hard to satisfy, but I believe he leaves no stone unturned in dealing with the challenging illness of me and, indeed, all his patients..

I find the staff of Dr Abou-Alfa beyond callus rude dismissive &disrespectful as they are treating Cancer Patients try and call if and when someone answers and try to explain why your calling You will see for yourself Shameful behavior

Dr Abu-Alfa is one of the best doctors i have ever had. He listens and explains everything clearly.
