If you are lucky or blessed enough to live at 461 Dean, especially in a rent-stabilized unit, please never give it up. Finding a property even half as nice in Brooklyn is nearly impossible.
I made the mistake of not giving the staff and management the opportunity to address the very minor issues I had with my unit. In fairness to them, I did not even report the concerns. Instead, I reacted emotionally and terminated my lease after only six months. Looking back, my decision had nothing to do with the staff or the apartment. I was new to New York City and experiencing culture shock. Living here had been a dream of mine for years, and I arrived with unrealistic expectations that were not the property’s fault. Moving out was a huge mistake. I was searching for greener grass without realizing that the grass at 461 Dean was already lush.
My current building has been an ongoing source of stress. Residents have formed a committee and even a Facebook group dedicated to the property’s issues. The building is only a year old, yet there have been significant problems, including weeks without heat, nonworking elevators, and leaking sewage gas. One resident has had to stay in a hotel because of the gas. Unfortunately, that is not an option for me. The staff and management here have been dismissive and have mastered the art of gaslighting.
I share this to emphasize that the staff and management at 461 Dean truly go out of their way to ensure residents feel safe, heard, and cared for. The attentiveness begins at the front desk, especially with Miguel, Sheldon, and Eddie, though the entire team is wonderful. I left abruptly and did not leave my unit as tidy as I should have, yet Mr. Guy Cerino has remained in contact with me without any malice. I have sent him several emails about the possibility of returning, and he has been responsive and willing to help. Amy, Matt, Omar, and the superintendent, whose name I regret forgetting, are all phenomenal.
I am hopeful that I will have the opportunity to move back home. I have truly learned my lesson and would not make the same mistake again. I highly recommend this property.
