I contacted Covenant House New York about donating items and asked if they accept gently used goods. That question wasn’t answered directly. Instead, I was told they only accept new and unused items and that I’d need to send photos for approval. I have not heard of this process from any other place accepting donations. It's understandable not wanting used bedding, bras and underwear but clothes that's another thing.

I know Covenant House does good things for many people living on the street, but I feel I was scammed because I made a one-time $20 donation outside my gym to two people collecting for Covenant House, and I asked twice and confirmed that this was a one-time donation yet suddenly I was charged what would have become a monthly donation which I never gave permission for. This is unethical and misleading and they will never, ever get another cent from me.
