If I could select zero stars, I would. My 10-year-old son and I had the worst experience on Wednesday, February 25th. We checked into the ER around 4:30 p.m. to complete an ultrasound and receive the results. Initially, everything seemed to be moving along smoothly. After about 30 minutes, we were taken to imaging. The ultrasound itself took no more than 15 minutes, and the technician assured me she submitted everything to the doctor for review as quickly as possible. We were then sent back to the ER waiting room and later called again for a urine sample. The nurse told us that once that was completed, we would have the results and be on our way within about 20 minutes. Unfortunately, 20 minutes turned into over two hours. During that time, I asked if I could take my son to the cafeteria to get dinner while we waited. I was advised not to leave because we might miss the doctor. So we stayed. Eventually, we were relocated to another area without any explanation. I had to ask a nurse why we were moved, especially since we had been told something different earlier. I explained multiple times that my son was hungry and getting tired. Each time, I was told it wouldn’t be much longer. Another hour passed. By then, the cafeteria had closed, my son was exhausted, hungry, and has school tomorrow. When I again asked how much longer it would be, I still was not given clear or accurate information. I have never checked myself or my child out of an emergency room before, but I felt I had no choice. What disappointed me most was the lack of communication and compassion. No one seemed concerned that my child hadn’t eaten and had been waiting for over three hours for results. Mercy has always been my go-to hospital, which makes this experience even more upsetting. I am extremely disappointed in the complete lack of communication and consideration we experienced. I’m hopeful that someone at Mercy South actually reads these comments and takes action. If I do not receive my sons test results no later than tomorrow afternoon I will be make a stop to retrieve them. Since we all know they will bill my insurance as fast as possible. Since this doctor was more than aware that a 10-year old and mother was waiting youfor hours the least he/she could do is reach out to me directly.
