We are endlessly grateful to the team at Park Slope Midwives. They took us on at 35 weeks — something so few practices would do — and from that moment on, cared for us as if we had been with them the whole pregnancy. Prenatal visits were unhurried and our questions were always met with patience and honest answers. Daniella, Shara, and Rosanne were with us through labor and the postpartum days, and we will never forget it. Their calm presence and steady hands made us feel completely safe at the most vulnerable moment of our lives, and the care that followed — the check-ins, the support, the feeling that someone truly had us — made all the difference as we became a family. I gave birth with the Park Slope Midwives at BMH and could not be more grateful for their support and care. The midwives themselves are exceptional (I gave birth with Danielle and Laura), but so also are the doulas (Aelish and Merissa), as well as the nurses (Jamie, Enjie, and Nicoletta). They consulted me and included my preferences at every step along the way, and never made me feel pressured into one path or another. I was even more surprised by how supported I felt in the post-partum unit. The shared rooms are definitely tight, and it would have been incredibly uncomfortable if my husband weren’t able to fit in my bed to sleep too, but the nurses (Roshanne) and lactation consultants (Latifah) were fantastic. (Note: I might be getting names wrong as I was a little out of it!) I switched to the midwives at 28 weeks from the a Weill Cornell OBGYN practice that delivers at Alexandra Cohen because I wanted a more natural approach that supported me to make decisions about my own labor. It was also significantly more conveniently located for me, as a Park Slope resident. Even knowing that the post-partum facilities are not as “fancy” as Alexandra Cohen, I will definitely be back to deliver any future babies because I can’t imagine doing it without the midwives and on-floor doulas!
