NYC Dental of Upper East Side

I don’t have any serious dental issues so I’m reviewing simple teeth cleaning. I’m also on Medicaid and was so happy to find a dentist who accepted my insurance. Not an easy feat. They are very quick and thorough. The hygienist, Pearl was fine got the job done quickly and without pain. Dr Weinstock, for me, is perfect. No nonsense type dentist. I love that!

I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience warrants one. My appointment began well — the hygienist who took my X-rays was kind and professional. Unfortunately, once the dentist entered, the visit felt rushed, impersonal, and inattentive. The cleaning itself lasted only a few minutes. There was no flossing, no fluoride offered, and no meaningful polishing. The entire procedure felt abbreviated and far below the standard of care I have experienced at other dental offices. What concerned me further was the complete lack of communication. No one reviewed my X-rays with me, explained any findings, or discussed the condition of my teeth. The appointment felt transactional rather than patient-focused. During the cleaning, the dentist worked aggressively, causing significant pain. At one point, a dental instrument was dropped and struck the roof of my mouth without acknowledgment or apology. The operatory also appeared poorly prepared — there was no rinse cup set up, and I was instructed to rinse anyway, which resulted in me spitting water and blood on myself. I was then told to get up and use the sink mid-procedure. No one really addressed the situation. Most concerning, I noticed immediately afterward that an existing crown — which had always sat against my gumline — now appears visibly raised and no longer meets the gum as it did prior to this visit. This was never discussed or consented to, and I am now seeking another provider to evaluate it. Despite my visible discomfort, I was asked multiple times about additional services. The timing felt inappropriate given the circumstances. Every patient deserves attentive care, clear communication, and basic professionalism. This visit left me feeling dismissed and concerned rather than cared for. I cannot recommend this practice.
