1 star. This was one of the most frustrating healthcare experiences I've ever had. I went to NYU Dental Urgent Care with a dental emergency and was told I needed an extraction. I was referred to Oral Surgery and specifically instructed to return as an emergency walk-in because I was in significant pain. I arrived at 7:00 a.m. and secured the fourth emergency walk-in spot. Throughout the day, I watched the three emergency patients ahead of me get evaluated and treated. After waiting more than 9 hours in severe pain, I was finally called back after 4:00 p.m. Only then was I told that no treatment would be performed and that my visit was "just a consultation." I was instructed to come back on another day and repeat the entire process. What makes this even more frustrating is that every other emergency walk-in ahead of me received treatment, while I was the only one sent home still suffering. If my visit was never going to result in treatment, that should have been communicated when I arrived—not after an entire day of waiting. Making a patient in severe pain spend 9+ hours in a waiting room only to leave untreated is unacceptable. I left exhausted, angry, still in pain, and with no resolution to the dental emergency that brought me there in the first place.
