Hazelden New York

They sent me one bill on the 8th of the month and got a call from collections agency on the 20th of the same month! Not a single phone call from them, according to their billing they have been calling me so many times...Strange how the collection agency got to me the first try but the billing could not. It’s not even that, when I signed up, they told me that Hazelton would never do this, they never go after people aggressively they said... really? After keeping $9,600 from my insurance they gave me 12 days to pay before they had collections call me, 12 days The only thing that made the program worth going was the friends I made there. I mean I had a counselor that said nothing during the sessions and was mostly falling asleep. During the pandemic, this is how they treat their former patients. Go to AA or NA I promise you, your times is better spent there

I attended its outpatient program after getting out of rehab for alcoholism. I have been sober for seven years now, and I can honestly say that going to AA for free and really getting involved in that program is far better for recovery than wasting a lot of money on Hazelden. A few things about Hazelden: * It violated doctor-patient confidentiality and my anonymity when it had someone from a third-party telemarketing firm call me, say that I have been identified as a former Hazelden patient for alcoholism, and ask me for money. * Unlike the extraordinary program that is AA, which asks that members choose a higher power, Hazelden has already chosen one for you: money. I couldn't believe that in the four weeks I attended Hazelden's outpatient program, 20 people whose health insurance ran out and couldn't afford to pay Hazelden's outrageous fee were shown the door and told "good luck". Literally. * Hazelden ROUTINELY violates the anonymity of its patients by bringing dopey interns/freshman year psychology students in to the counseling sessions. * Hazelden wants to be Alcoholics Anonymous - even going so far as to try and profit off of AA literature and bombarding its former patients with spam - but it isn't. Since money is clearly the higher power at Hazelden, its piddly program will never, ever be as effective as going to AA for free and embracing the principals. Don't let Hazelden's propaganda try to trick you in to believing that it has some sort of inside track on recovery or the AA program. It's just another PT Barnum act, like Dr. Drew.
