I am writing this review because our experience with Greenpoint Vision Care left us with serious concerns regarding the communication and transparency surrounding my son’s visit with Dr. Taylor White, including the information provided about the nature of the appointment, the services performed, and the resulting billing. My 21-year-old son went to Greenpoint Vision Care to satisfy the DMV vision exam requirement for his driver’s license and was told the cost would be $25. As a first-time driver, he believed the appointment was limited to the services necessary to complete the DMV requirement. After the visit, he was charged an additional $10 copay. When I asked him to explain what occurred, he described additional testing, including dilation, which he believed was part of the DMV vision exam. Based on his understanding, everything performed during the visit appeared to be required to complete the DMV vision test. Only afterward did we learn that the visit had been billed as a comprehensive eye exam. According to my son, he did not understand that he was receiving a full eye exam, that insurance would be billed, or that additional charges could apply. He did not specifically request a comprehensive eye exam and left believing he had received only the DMV vision test he came in for. The issue is not the additional $10 copay. The issue is that the appointment and billing outcome were very different from what my son understood he had scheduled. Had any examination beyond the DMV vision test been clearly explained, along with any associated billing implications, he could have made an informed decision before proceeding. What was particularly disappointing was the response afterward. When my husband contacted the office seeking clarification, he felt his concerns were met with resistance rather than a direct explanation. The office later contacted my son regarding the matter, and he perceived the conversation as upsetting and confrontational. As the primary insurance policy holder, I also attempted to contact the office to better understand the charges, but I was unable to reach anyone despite calling during normal business hours. In my opinion, this experience reflects a lack of clear communication regarding the nature of the visit and the resulting billing. Based on our son’s experience, I would not recommend this practice.
