I sent an inquiry via Psychology Today, which promises a " free 15 minute consultation". My very first interaction was an form email (with an unsubscribe link): "If you intend to use insurance to cover treatment, please reply to this email and send over your membership ID number + Date of birth so we can verify your benefits when we call you to follow up. You can also send over images of your insurance card (Front and back)." I unsubscribed. A week later on Sunday I got a voice mail telling me the counselor I wanted was unavailable but ... "I just want to get back to you to let you know that generally we do accept your insurance. We would like to know if you're open to other providers that we have that would be a good fit. We do accept insurances and have openings right now so please let us know what type of insurance you have." Everything about this gives me the ick. Don't ask for my insurance before I get to the phone consultation. Don't ask me to send you my insurance card via non encrypted methods. Don't wait over a week and then call me on Sunday. Try treating me like a human being and not an obstacle to getting your insurance money. If I email a specific counselor, have that person respond to me, not a literal robot and a - presumably underpaid - secretary.
