Mary Anne Pecorella
I was a patient of Dr. Elangovan for two years. I initially went to her for bipolar. She asked me what medications I was on. I told her I was on Haloperidol for 8 years, and I hadn’t had a psychotic episode for 8 years. She failed to use informed consent, which means sf He should have told me what side effects I could get from continued use of haloperidol. One of the side effects was tardive dyskinesia, and I got it. You are supposed to be weaned off an antipsychotic, and she did not ,which can cause td to worsen, and mine did. I was on Ativan for anxiety. and i have insomnia., and she told me to take the Ativan together with my ambien. You supposed to take them 8 hours in between or you can go into respiratory arrest. I told her if she would have taken me off the haloperidol when I first came to her I wouldn’t have developed td. Every month her receptionist would call me to set up another appointment. She did not. She didn’t even have the decency to tell me that she would no longer see me as a patient, and she didn’t recommend another psychiatrist to me. I would definitely not recommend this doctor. She also said that lithium was ruining my kidneys. I went to a kidney Dr. and he said the lithium didn’t ruin my kidney, although it did give me an overactive thyroid and kidney cysts.
