I was running a bit behind and called to see if I could reschedule or cancel. The person on the phone insisted that she couldn’t reschedule me unless I paid a $50 cancellation fee via the telephone. I have no problem paying a cancelation fee however I don’t believe that it is policy to tell patients that you cannot reschedule them unless they pay right then and there. I rushed and managed to make it to the appointment, filled out my paperwork and was called into an exam room. The receptionist was really nice and even offered me water as she could see that I rushed to get there. I placed my belongings on the back of the door and to my surprise someone who wasn’t a physician or clinical staff was in the room. Before I could even speak unidentified the person said “You hung up on me I thought you cancelled why did you come? I told another patient that they could have extra work done and now they can’t because you’re here.” EXCUSE ME? I was so caught off guard. I asked her who she was and she said that she was the manager. I asked her if she thought that it was appropriate to confront me the way that she did and she said she can because she’s the manger. I asked her to leave the exam room several times and she condescendingly told me that she didn’t have to leave. I then opened the door and asked if someone could ask her to leave the exam room and everyone including the dentist who I was scheduled to see said that they didn’t want to intervene because she was the manager. I went back into the exam room to gather my belongings and asked her for her name which was Anna Miller who was apparently the appalling administrative manager. Things happen patients miss appointments, run late etc. Compassion and professionalism are basic core competencies of health care admins. Sneaking into a patient room and being snarky and confrontational are highly off putting and inexcusable behavior. Interestingly enough, my appointment that I checked in for was removed from my chart as if it never happened but luckily I have a screenshot. It turns out that I was scheduled incorrectly to begin with. My dental appointment was scheduled as a telephone call? Hmmmm perhaps the administrative manager should focus on how she schedules instead of who wants to reschedule and why. As per the other negative reviews I truly believe that they are all in regards to Anna.
