Horrific and unethical. I was referred here by the Columbia University counseling center for regular weekly therapy. After my intake I was emailed and told that I needed a higher level of care. In that email they referred me to several IOPs, some of which didn’t even carry my insurance. When I emailed back to ask why I needed a higher level of care, they refused to tell me why based on “confidentiality reasons”. When I said I was referring to my own case, they still cited confidentiality reasons. This triggered me doing five or six needless intakes at IOPs, DBT programs, and more. I was bounced around from place to place, with each place escalating until I was referred to PHPs. This is ultimately a failure of imagination in the psychology field. I was fine all along, if in a lot of pain. I have built my life on different values that others may not deem normal. Note that I am still here to write this review after the months of referral hell. I was and am in no way a risk or in need of stabilization. In fact, I just won an academic award. Note that I was in a lot of pain due to situational problems related to racism. I don't need to be pathologized for experiencing the world correctly. However, I have had to deal with the stress of a string of mental health professionals labeling/pathologizing me with all sorts of things based off of single intake sessions. For example, and this is not the only thing I heard, I now have on my permanent medical record from those IOP programs that I am “uncollaborative” and “lack self awareness” because I said I didn’t know why I was seeking a higher level of care. This is absolutely Repose’s fault as they did not tell me why and I believe it may even count as abandonment and lack of proper referral. It is unethical to refer a person to a higher level of care if they do not already have a main therapist to support them in this major step— the university counseling center has a limit of 10 sessions per student; it is not real therapy. It is unethical to refer a person to a higher level of care and not help them understand why or how to figure out what to do next. A patient, especially one new to therapy in general, cannot be expected to take on extra stress and navigate the difficult waters of the complex mental health system alone. The difficulty, and ultimate failure, I experienced in trying to get care further deteriorated my mental health and caused me major trauma and irreparable harm. I will never seek therapy again. I have expressed my grievances with Columbia University counseling but I doubt they’ll stop collaborating with this scam therapy group. The fact that the Repose website doesn’t include how many years of experience their therapists have is a big red flag. I’m sure Repose will now respond to this review with a snarky, gaslighting reply as they have done to several other reviewers. Repose: You hurt me. You hurt me. You hurt me.
