I genuinely wish there was better communication because I was always receiving conflicting information. I (21 aged sibling) had registered my brother (16) here with no issue. PSA, our father was *not* present a few weeks ago at registration. Then the appointment came and the nurse said she wasnt allowed to see him because she needed a written from our dad. --- Ok, went home got a written note, came back after setting up an appointment. (This was in pediactric) Then a lady at registration desk said that the written letter wasn't enough as she doesn't know who wrote it, and even asked her boss who told her no I'm guessing. So, she gave me a formal letter and said my dad had to be there physically to sign it...however he is 63 and constantly unwell and has a bad back, so he isn't the most reliable. ---- So my brother and I waited a while to find the right moment where our dad could come. Then we get a call from a guy at reception asking why my brother never came for his physical, we told him, and he had us come in, he spoke with his boss and he gave us the formal letter, told us to go home and have dad sign it and come back. And that's what we did. (PSA my brothers appointment was at 12pm) He then told us we can go up to pediactric and we were sitting there for 30 minutes or a little more. And while waiting, the boss?, of the man called me, I gave her my dads number and my dad called me to tell me that she called him. Then the same nurse from the first time (curly grey hair) told me that she couldn't see my brother unless the father was present and signed the form in front of her. But I told her the form was signed and given to the guy at reception and he called his boss and she even said it was okay. And she replied with "thats not how we do it" (Even though to my knowledge this a clinic policy, not a state law. Under NYS law the parent doesnt need to be there physcially to sign, they just need to sign a formal letter) Then I called the guy at reception and tell him and he said he was going to have his boss I think, call pediactric, and the whole thing was so chaotic because by the time my brother was seen, it was like late of 4pm. Then by the time he was seen the same nurse knocked on the door where we were with the doctor and she told her that she didn't feel comfortable giving my brother the needle he needed for the physical so the doctor did it instead. (They were also speaking to each other after that about the situation) The nurse also refused to do it for another near adult aged patient who had mom's permission. So, the whole thing was just so chaotic and draining because why does everyone expect children to have parents who are young, able, healthy and not busy to just come in person with them to give consent for family to bring them? I understand why she might of felt uncomfortable but if the boss gave the green light, why stall so much and make us wait from 12 to late 4pm? And it also seems the she was being the nurse and the receptionists along with another lady. Maybe they are short staffed and booked, which i also understand and possibly that contributed to the long wait. The 3 stars is for the convenient location, the receptionists and boss that helped, and the doctor that actually saw my brother with no issue. 2 stars minus because of the long wait, conflicting info and some in pediactric not agreeing with a more flexible way for parents to sign permission and not be there despite our parents having legitimate excuses...but thank you for the care anyways, i hope next time is no issue. ❤️ (EDIT FOR DENTAL) The Dental department was understanding and helped my brother get the care he needed. We didn't have to wait as long primarily due my fathers signature being on file and them immediately finding a solution instead of stalling. This we truly appreciate because not everyone has readily available or healthy parents to set up and come in for their childs appointment/s.
