Long story short : After months of visits, all I experienced from this practice was worsened acne, irritation, and more dark spots than I started with due to their trial-and-error approach Long story : I went to this dermatologist for a minor breakout and to even my skin tone. Instead, he told me I had eczema on my face, which I should’ve questioned more because I had never experienced any texture issues until I moved to New Jersey.I traveled to this practice at least five times over a few months, and my acne only continued to get worse. I was first prescribed hydrocortisone, which is a harsh topical. My skin looked okay at first—until it didn’t. My face became much darker, and I continued breaking out. I then went back and was prescribed triamcinolone, which did absolutely nothing except give me harsh, red, under the skin pimples ! something I had never dealt with before. I also developed bad acne on my forehead. All they do is look at you and prescribe medication. They don’t ask meaningful questions, don’t dig into lifestyle, skincare routines, or triggers—nothing. I had to track my daily habits and products on my own just to figure out what was actually going on with my skin.Eventually, I realized I likely had fungal acne, probably caused by the excessive use of topical steroids and constant product changes. The last time I went, I was seen by an NP instead of the dermatologist, which was frustrating because I needed continuity of care from someone familiar with my skin. Once I mentioned that I believed it was fungal acne, she prescribed azelaic acid—and surprise, my forehead finally cleared. After months of visits, all I experienced from this practice was worsened acne, irritation, and more dark spots than I started with due to their trial-and-error approach. As a Black woman, I genuinely thought going to a dermatologist with at least some understanding of melanin-rich skin would make a difference. It didn’t. This practice felt careless and dismissive. I was treated like a test subject for topical steroids, rather than a patient whose skin needed thoughtful, individualized care. Now I’m left dealing with the damage.
