I signed my elderly mother up with Medical Alert, and she used the pendant system for three years until July 2025.. I have no complaints about their technology nor the service reps we interacted with to update or test the system. However, we had a horrible experience terminating service five months ago when we moved my mom to an assisted living center and she no longer needed this service. I called Medical Alert, and they emailed me a prepaid mailing label. I packed up the equipment and dropped it at the post office within two days on July 29th. On October 29th, Med Alert charged my mother's American Express card $539.40 for another year of service, even though I told them we were canceling on July 28th and had already returned their equipment. Once I became aware of the charge, I called them on November 17th. They said they would refund the wrongfully charged annual renewal fee, but now-- two months later on December 23rd-- I still cannot get them to issue a refund after calling them at least 3 or 4 times. They keep assuring me that the 'finance department' will issue a refund, but insist that I allow them 30 days from whenever I call. The reps are polite and seem to be trying to help, but either the billing department is grossly incompetent or else this is a criminal organization. The fact that nearly five months has gone by since I've returned their equipment (and that they billed my mom for another year and have since neglected to refund the wrongful charge) should speak for itself. I strongly urge anyone contemplating doing business with Connect America Medical Alert to consider other options.
